Gulf McLaren F1 GTR Longtail Racing Coupe Heading to Bonhams Auction

Dressed in legendary livery, the ultra-modern competition coupe is one of the greatest sports cars ever built.
One of the genuine icons of the modern-era sports car racing is heading to Bonhams Exceptional Motorcars and Automobilia auction this August. The ex-GTC Gulf Team Davidoff 1997 McLaren F1 GTR 'Longtail' FIA GT Endurance Racing Coupe - to give it its full and proper name - is dressed in Gulf Oil's pale-blue and orange team livery, colors worn by other legendary victors such as the Ford GT40 and Porsche 917K.
Heralded as one of the greatest sports cars ever made, this particular example, chassis '028R,' was the 28th and final McLaren F1 GTR built by the British McLaren Cars factory, and the last of only ten highly developed 'Longtail' cars. These ultra-modern competition coupes represented the pinnacle of McLaren's Le Mans-winning F1 GTR family, identifiable by their stunning Gordon Murray design, unique centerline driving position and sophisticated all-composite structure. The Longtails also featured longer noses and tails to reduce drag and achieve the maximum possible aerodynamic downforce.
In 1997 '028R' raced at the Nurburgring, Spa-Francorchamps, Austria's A1-Ring, Donington Park, Mugello, Sebring and Laguna. The car was driven by Andrew Gilbert-Scott, Geoff Lees, Anders Olofsson and John Neilsen."We are delighted to have been appointed by an international collector to represent this breathtaking piece of competition machinery," says Mark Osborne, Head of Motoring at Bonhams. "Racing legends like the McLaren F1 GTR rarely if ever appear at auction."This is an epic car dressed in a legendary livery, which is why a year ago the same car was being offered for €3m.So when this particular Gulf McLaren F1 GTR Longtail crosses the auction block don't be surprised if bids surpass $4m.The 2012 Bonhams Auction of Exceptional Motorcars will take place Thursday & Friday, August 16 & 17 at Quail Lodge in Carmel, California.

Acura Reveals Official Image of NSX Concept Spyder

A supercar built for a superhero.
Yes, we've seen this before. Several months back, some on-set picture from the upcoming film "The Avengers" ended up online. Not only did they show the film's stars, such as Robert Downey, Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man and Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow, but also what appeared to be a previously unknown Acura spyder concept. Most suspected that concept to be the much-rumored future NSX. Sure enough, we were right.
Acura revealed their NSX coupe concept at the Detroit Auto Show last January, and now they've released this image of the spyder. And to no one's surprise, it's the exact same car we saw in those online photos. Tony Stark has officially traded in his Audi R8 Spyder for the new Acura NSX Spyder concept, confirming what we've known for roughly six months. No word yet on when (or if) we'll be seeing the Spyder concept at an upcoming live show, but we think this is a very strong indicator that Acura will build a production version. In the meantime, we'll be able to be jealous of Tony Stark once again when we see him in "The Avengers", opening next month.

Saleen Set to Announce All-New Car

Having won the right to use his name again, Steve Saleen has some big plans for the company he founded almost 30 years ago.
As we reported last week, after a lengthy court battle, Steve Saleen, founder of Saleen Autosport in 1984 and creator of the Saleen S7 supercar, has legally regained the use of his name on all his products. He now intends to move the company forward with a brand new car and the requisite level of restructuring.Presently, Saleen heads SMS Supercars (Steven Mark Saleen), which has produced around 400 Dodge Challengers and Ford Mustangs with the SMS name, as well as a host of other impressive tuning projects.
Now that he has won back his brand name, he intends to begin production on a Camaro, with all three models to be offered in three trim levels. SMS badging will also be replaced across the board by the Saleen nomenclature. The S5S Raptor concept revealed at the 2008 New York Auto Show is set to get the green light (perhaps with a different name) "That's still a part of our plan. The S5S is still in our planning," Saleen said.As is the release of a brand new vehicle, which Autoweek are reporting will be announced in the next 90 days and that Saleen described will "be somewhat of a different direction."
The S5S Raptor boasted a 5.0-liter supercharged Ford V8 capable of 650hp and 630lb-ft of torque and was allegedly capable of a 0-60mph sprint time of 3.2 seconds and a 200mph top speed. So anything along those lines would be more than welcome.

Milan tuning house Romeo Ferraris has unveiled their two-step tuning program for the Ferrari 599 GTO. The Ferrari F12berlinetta precursor is powered by one of the Italian automaker's famed V12 powerplants and is a model which, of its own accord, is quite stunning. The Ferrari 599 GTO's V12 produces at stock a solid 670hp and 457 lb-ft of torque. The first stage of the Romeo Ferraris aftermarket program consists of the addition of a new sports air filter and exhaust.
These two changes add 15hp and 10 lb-ft of torque. The second stage of the Italian's tuning program focuses on a revamping of the Ferrari's ECU and a high-performance exhaust system. With these changes, the 599 GTO cranks out a serious added 40hp and 35 lb-ft of torque for totals of 710hp and 492 lb-ft of torque. In addition to the added power, Romeo Ferraris has added carbon fiber mirrors, front spoiler and rear diffuser to the Italian supercar. No pricing information or performance specs have been released as of yet for the Romeo Ferraris Ferrari 599 GTO.

[Video] Red Pagani Huayra is Pure Supercar Seduction

Horatio’s Huayra has been spotted in stunning red.
The Pagani Huayra looks so good in this stunning red finish that you think the video could be a video game and not the real thing. Shot by Marchettino, the latest design from Horatio Pagani is pure sex on wheels.
For those of you who may have forgotten, the Pagani Huayra was named after the Aymaran god of wind who controls the breeze, wind and blizzards of the Andean highlands. In less existential terms, the Huayra packs a 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged V12 AMG engine that can bang out 730hp and sprint from 0-60mph in 3.3 seconds and reach a wind-breaking 230mph top speed.

A Closer Look at the Lamborghini Aventador J

This is everything a true supercar should be. Too bad only one has been made.
Lamborghini's latest and most insane one-off model, the Aventador J, had its official debut earlier this month at the Geneva Motor Show. While there are no plans to put into mass production, numerous sources have stated that the car has been sold to a private collector.Who that individual is remains unknown and we don't know if we'll ever see the car again once they've taken possession. Before that happens, however, EVO magazine's Features Editor Henry Catchpole had a unique opportunity.
He was given an after-hours look at the V12-powered supercar at the Swiss show. He gives us a good look inside the car as well, right down to its carbon fiber trim pieces. Overall, he sums up that the Aventador J is "the most incredible one-off creation to come out of Sant'Agata." We couldn't agree more.

[Video] Hennessey Ford GT: The New Standing Mile World Record Holder

A Hennessey-tuned Ford GT may just be the best supercar - ever.
After yesterday's nearly heartbreaking news about a 1,000hp Ford GT getting totaled in Brazil, we bring some better news today that'll rightly cheer up everyone's' spirits.Last weekend, a crew from tuning firm Hennessey managed to set the world record for the standing mile while behind the wheel of a Hennessey-built twin turbo Ford GT. The car is owned by Mark Heidaker and was driven by Sean Kennedy.
Obviously this was no ordinary Ford GT, as it once had both a twin-turbocharger and a supercharger before Hennessey added their own magic touch. Basically, the tuner decided to drop the supercharger for the twin-turbo setup, citing efficiency reasons. In the end, they GT had a top speed of 257.7 mph.
Hennessey also just released this video showing Kennedy behind the wheel setting the record. Chances are the Brazilian driver from yesterday would have been killed if he tried anything like this in his GT. Instead, he just crashed the thing.

Lamborghini’s Army Green Aventador Ready for Action

Bespoke colors for Lamborghini Aventadors? Count us in.
Spotted in Zurich, Switzerland, was a Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 finished in a new Army Green color and sporting a set of big and aggressively awesome blacked-out wheels.
The Lamborghini Aventador was sold from Schmohl AG car dealership for a fee of CHF 525,000 (about $580,000). The used Aventador has 1,000km on the clock (roughly 621 miles). For a supercar with a 700hp 6.5-liter V12 good for 0-62mph in 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 217mph, some people will spend well over the MSRP.

Ron Dennis: Next McLaren Supercar Won’t be Faster than the F1

Get ready for what will likely be the most technologically advanced supercar on the planet.
After too many years of not building a production road car, McLaren is clearly trying to make up for lost time. Now that their MP4-12C has successfully launched, the British company is turning their attention to something even bigger: the F1 successor.Speaking at the opening of a new Sydney, Australia McLaren dealership the other night, company boss Ron Dennis revealed a few more details about the F1's spiritual successor.
Expected to be revealed in May, Dennis stated that trying to beat the legendary F1's top speed of 242 mph isn't the goal, nor is breaking the Bugatti Veyron's speed record.Instead, he claimed that the MP4-12C "will go around any circuit in the world faster than an F1. Don't get fixated by top speed. That's the first thing you have to discard in today's society." However, he did promise the new flagship will be the world's most technologically advanced supercar.
He continued by stating that "you've got to have....a complete package of performance.
You've got to embrace technologies that are out there that are accepted, and some that don't even exist. I can tell you our next car has many things on it that don't exist at the moment."He also revealed that it will be low volume (only 300-500 units, but this was expected) and that it'll be the most expensive and innovative supercar of its time.Power will come from the MP4-12C's 3.8-liter twin turbo V8; however it'll have better performance thanks to what will likely be a hybrid system that'll give it an extra boost and that also reduces fuel consumption.Unlike the F1, the new car will have a conventional two-seat layout (instead of the F1's three-seat design), but will still be radically different styling-wise compared to the 12C's mainly conservative lines.Overall, the new McLaren supercar will be more livable than the F1, but Dennis said that "what it lacks in purity it will make up for with more technology."
