One-Of-A-Kind Pininfarina Hyperion Now For Sale in Abu Dhabi

The one-off Pininfarina was originally bought for $6m; who knows how much it will go for in the Middle East.
Collector and Rolls-Royce Drophead Coupe owner Roland Hall commissioned Pininfarina to build the Hyperion back in 2008, instructing them to create a custom-built car that would evoke the appeal of the extravagant cars of the 1930s.In meeting the challenge, Jason Castriota (of former Saab fame) and Pininfarina's Special Projects division came up with this stunning long hood design and constructed an aluminum spaceframe in which they fitted a 6.7-liter V12 engine rated at 453hp and 531lb-ft of torque.
There's no mistaking the Rolls Royce front grille, which has been given a more aerodynamic look as well as recessed Bi xenon headlights and LED technology. The Rolls-Royce Drophead Coupe's interior has been left largely untouched, although the rear seats were removed and the driving position pushed back over 15 inches. The rest of the body is made of carbon-fiber save for the solid wood doors.Hall apparently sold the Hyperion, named after one of the Titans of Greek mythology, for around $6 million just a year after buying it.And now it has surfaced at an Abu Dhabi dealership where it is listed for sale at an undisclosed price. It seems that even spectacular one-off creations can become boring for those with too much money then sense.

A Closer Look at the Lamborghini Aventador J

This is everything a true supercar should be. Too bad only one has been made.
Lamborghini's latest and most insane one-off model, the Aventador J, had its official debut earlier this month at the Geneva Motor Show. While there are no plans to put into mass production, numerous sources have stated that the car has been sold to a private collector.Who that individual is remains unknown and we don't know if we'll ever see the car again once they've taken possession. Before that happens, however, EVO magazine's Features Editor Henry Catchpole had a unique opportunity.
He was given an after-hours look at the V12-powered supercar at the Swiss show. He gives us a good look inside the car as well, right down to its carbon fiber trim pieces. Overall, he sums up that the Aventador J is "the most incredible one-off creation to come out of Sant'Agata." We couldn't agree more.

Unique of the Week: One-Off 1959 Troy-Chevrolet Street Legal Racer

Driving purity at its finest. Too bad it was never mass-produced.
There was a time when the youth of America were all about speed. Everything from Corvettes, home-built hot rods, and above all, horsepower dominated a growing and passionate car culture. While those traits continued to exist in one form or another throughout the 1970s, 80s, and 90s, that golden era of motoring that really got into gear after World War II may soon come to an end. Some further proof? It says it all in a newly released annual survey conducted by the Deloitte consulting company.
It claims that people who were born beginning in the 1980s, often referred to as 'Generation Y', prefer for their cars today to be hybrids loaded with high-tech features.
Automotive consultant Craig Giffi who managed the survey has stated that "This could be the generation that leads us away from traditional gasoline-powered vehicles."According to the survey, 59 percent of these consumers, aged 19-31, replied that they prefer an "electrified vehicle" to other types of cars and trucks. They also want touch-screen controls with smartphone applications.
Yeah, we know. We're now living in an era of smartphone, hybrid loving sissies who don't know how to drive manual transmissions (with the noted exception of CarBuzz readers, you're all cool). Back in the late 1950s, however, a man named Wally Troy had a vision to build a true European influenced street legal race car that was free from all unnecessary weight and creature comforts. He was also the first official Jaguar dealer in the state of Illinois. In addition to being a smart businessman, he was also a talented craftsman who made his passion come alive. He achieved this in 1959 and the Troy Roadster pictured here was the result.
And sadly enough, it was the only one ever built. It featured a carefully handcrafted aluminum body, a tubular frame and belly pan, and was originally powered by a 283 4.6-liter Chevy V8 with 195hp.In 1960, the car was featured in Hot Rod magazine as well as a period comic book. For several years the car's location was unknown, but in 1975 it was found and bought by the current owner. It was stored for nearly 20 years before a full restoration was started. That was when the current engine was installed: a 350 5.7-liter Chevy V8 with over 300hp.
It has all period correct components, such as a Corvette manifold and 4 barrel carbs in order to make it resemble its original appearance. In addition, the front suspension is a Ford straight axle with leaf springs while the rear axle is a 50s era Ford 9-inch with parallel leaf springs. The front brakes are Chevrolet discs while the rears are Ford drums. After the restoration was completed, it was shown at the 2004 Amelia Island Concourse. And it's now for sale on eBay Motors, with a current bid of $36,100. However, the reserve hasn't been met and it's possible the seller has a much higher number in mind for something this special.
With just 2,000 miles on the odometer, this one-off street legal racer is only for the true gearhead. It's meant and ready to be driven - without any sort of infotainment system or smartphone app. The engine note and the wind in your face are all you'll ever need.Photos courtesy of 2shores

Lamborghini Aventador J: From Blank Sheet to One-off Supercar in 6 Weeks

Unveiled to great fanfare at the Geneva Motor Show, the Aventador J was first conceived just six weeks prior to the event.
A veritable smorgasbord of supercars is on show in Geneva and amongst the most outrageous, head-scratching designs being served up, the screenless, roofless Aventador J is the most sumptuous.Europe's premier auto show is an annual affair, so you would be forgiven for thinking the sensational one-off speedster was long in the making; something that was deliberated over for months, with dozens of designs drawn up and discarded, and hours spent in board rooms thrashing out ideas.
You would be forgiven, but you'd be wrong. According to Top Gear, who secured an exclusive interview with Lamborghini designer Filippo Perini, when CEO Stephan Winkelman asked his team to come up with "something special" for Geneva there was a little over six weeks to complete the project. From scratch. From a blank sheet of paper to a road-legal, homologated supercar in a month-and-a-half is a phenomenal achievement. Perini claims the car was drawn up in a weekend, but don't assume this is simply the Aventador with a few missing parts. Save for the hood, front fender and headlights, every other panel on the J is bespoke.
At the front lurks a huge winglet-covered diffuser, while the rear has adopted a quad-exhaust system. Sleek humps and a carbon-fiber crossbrace covering the engine replace the coupe's slatted rear deck, and the 'periscope' rear-view is a stunning new detail. The speed from conception to full-blown supercar is impressive, but equally so is the speed in which the car was sold. Top Gear say it found a buyer prior its Geneva introduction, and Perini claims one of Lamborghini's best customers snapped it up after being presented with the project. At a cost of $2.74 million, that's one seriously loyal fan.As an interesting appendage to the story, Top Gear discovered that reports claiming the 'J' suffix refers to the FIA's 'Appendix J' regulations that governs technical specs of sports cars are misleading. In fact, the 'J' is short for 'Jota,' the Miura-based racer that is still regarded as Lamborghini's wildest, most iconic creation.
