IED Turin Plans a Concept Debut for Geneva: Cisitalia 202 E

Masters students at the European Institute of Design in Turin have created a successor to the famed 1947 Cisitalia 202.

The 1947 Cisitalia 202 is considered by many to be the 'Godfather' of sorts for modern day sports cars. Pinin Farina's revolutionary design from over 60 years ago has been updated thanks to a team of Master of Arts in Transportation Design students at the European Institute of Design (IED) from Turin, Italy.The Cisitalia 202 E (E meaning Evolution) concept is, by the looks of a pair of pre-released renderings, a gorgeous interpretation of the classic Italian design.

The new concept created by the students for a premiere at next month's Geneva Motor Show "faithfully reflects the design of the historic vehicle, with dimensions and power aligned with modern times," said IED in a statement.Only 170 models of the original Cisitalia 202 were ever produced during its run from 1947 to 1952. It weighed in at 780lbs and could reach an impressive speed (for that time) of 99mph thanks to a 55hp 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine.The Cisitalia 202 E concept packs a 450hp rear-mounted V8 engine sure to make the former feel a bit geriatric.Keep an eye out for the IED Cisitalia 202 E concept when it makes its debut at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, beginning next month on March 6th.
