Porsche 918 Spyder Hybrid Update; Heading to Frankfurt 2013

New details have come out about the Porsche 918 Spyder Hybrid ahead of its debut, slated for the next Frankfurt Motor Show.
Porsche's in-house magazine Christophorus has just released some new details concerning the 918 Spyder Hybrid, set to make its debut in just over 18 months at next year's Frankfurt Auto Show.A page from the latest edition of the mag was scanned onto Teamspeed, giving us the most up-to-date info on the new supercar. The two-seater mid-engine sports car was designed for efficiency and performance.
According to the mag, the new 918 Spyder Hybrid will run on a 550hp 4.6-liter (up from 3.4) V8 engine based on the RS Spyder LMP2 racer. Couple that with a pair of 230hp combined electric motors and you are looking at a total output of over 740 horses, according to Teamspeed. Power will be transferred to the wheels via a seven-speed PDK transmission. It will feature such technologies like "a central injector mounted directly adjacent to the spark plug, a central oil feed to the crankshaft, a variable-pressure composite oil pump and scavenge pump and forged lightweight pistons from a Formula 1 supplier."
The mag continues, saying it will have a "very high compression ratio and a Porsche first, a variable valve timing with intake and exhaust phase stepper motors."Teamspeed also says that it will price in the U.S. around $650,000-700,000. As mentioned earlier, the Porsche 918 Spyder-Hybrid concept is scheduled to debut at the 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show next September.
