Porsche Reportedly Delays Entry-Level Roadster

A less expensive Porsche? Not happening for now according to the automaker's CEO.
Let's face it: we've been spoiled by Porsche lately. Not only have they launched the all-new 911 Coupe and Cabrio, but just a few days ago they released the first official pictures and details of the redesigned 2013 Boxster. On top of all of this, they're continuing development of the 918 Spyder.So what's there to be disappointed about? Not much, except for one thing. According to a report from Automotive News, Porsche is now delaying plans for an upcoming entry-level roadster.

Speaking to a German business magazine, Porsche CEO Matthias Mueller stated that "we need to wait until the next generation of customers before the idea of a small roadster will work."This is now in contrast to what he stated last year around this time about the potential small mid-engined sports car, a spiritual successor to the classic 550, they were thinking of launching as early as 2014.It made sense at the time because the automaker is clearly moving forward with their small SUV, the Cajun, in an effort to increase annual global sales.Interestingly, Mueller also said that potential plans for a model above the 911 but below the 918 are still being considered. So it seems that for now, the entry for price for a Porsche sports car (the new Boxster) will remain about $50,000.Pictures shown are of the 2013 Boxster and 918 Spyder Concept
