The Dutch build cars? Absolutely.
It's been nearly a year since we last heard something from Donkervoort, the small Dutch-owned sports car builder. At that time, they revealed their D8 GTO just ahead of its Geneva Motor Show debut. And now they're back with the car's official specs. Powered by an Audi-sourced five cylinder 2.5-liter TFSI, it produces some 340hp and 331lb-ft of torque, it's also possible to opt for an even more powerful version with 400hp. Compared to other Donkervoort models such as the 270RS and GT, the new GTO shares only five percent of its parts with its predecessors.Additional weight saving has also been accomplished by modifying the Audi engine with a new intake manifold, cutting the engine's weight by about 66 pounds. The automaker also incorporated new manufacturing techniques for the chassis and doors, the latter of which are now one piece. They can also handle crash forces up to 3,306 pounds. Production will begin early in 2012 with the first customer deliveries expected this summer. The cost? Buyers will be paying between €100,000 to €150,000 (not including taxes). Just to get an idea of what to expect from a car with a weird name (no insult intended), check out the official video here. This will truly be something special.
