The car that put Tesla on the EV map is reaching the end of its shelf life.
In 2014, Tesla will be replacing the Lotus-based Roadster with a new Roadster built completely in-house by the California manufacturer from the ground up.To mark the end of the Roadster's production, Tesla has created a Final Edition model, limited to just five models for North America. The Final Edition Roadsters are limited to North America but similar editions are planned for European and Asian markets, with 15 final units to be produced in total. All will be finished in a special Sporting Atomic Red paint with two longitudinal black stripes on its hood and rear clamshell, and an exclusive set of anthracite aluminum alloys. There are no changes to the performance or interior, so the same electric motor will feature under the hood producing 248hp and enabling the car to sprint from 0-60mph in 3.9 seconds.
